At Last: Shop Around for Hospitals

Healthia (which I blogged about here) has followed up on its doctor reviews by launching a cool feature (in Beta) to enable price comparisons of any hospital procedure within 100 miles of your home. It's a sign of things to come as the medical industry yields to transparent pricing and consumer driven healthcare.

transparency is more about messaging, dynamic elgibility, exact costs from hospitals and not CMS (which Healthia relies upon), and health information exchanges that provide true longitudinal views, etc. Transparency resides towards processes and solutions that reduce the variance inside the healthcare delivery model.

In addition, transparency includes a continual kick in the ass to the CDO's by the govt.

no single payer solution will survive. Mitt's plan is merely a combination of social and market-driven principles and is even more central to Massachusetts, which is a different animal, by far - think big revenue base for paying, 90% non profit and drowning in losses, and company with large covered lives.
